ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - A person in a motorized wheelchair was killed in a crash involving two vehicles, according to the Alexandria Police Department.

Kevin Batiste, Sr., 52, of Alexandria , was identified as the driver of a van that hit the wheelchair. He was summoned for DWI (second offense) and arrested for vehicular homicide, reckless operation and driving under suspension. Bond was set at $251,000.

NOTE: APD identified the suspect as Kevin Baptiste. RPSO booking records show the suspect’s name as Kevin Batiste.

A second vehicle was also involved in the crash but fled the scene before APD arrived. This vehicle is described as a dark-colored Dodge Charger with heavy front-end damage.
