Driving around Durban in South Africa, my uncle often jokes about how it’s impossible to navigate the city because the road names change constantly. The ANC (African National Congress) likes to rename streets in honour of the heroes of the anti-Apartheid era. There’s nothing wrong with that, but as my uncle also likes to joke – albeit with a strong sense of frustration – it’s often the only change one notices after 31 years of freedom.
I saw my family in KwaZulu-Natal after spending time in another province in South Africa, Limpopo.
