A box jellyfish advisory has been issued for Nanakuli Beach Park this morning.

Honolulu officials posted the alert from Ocean Safety at 8:15 a.m., saying box jellyfish have been observed both in the water and on the shoreline at Nanakuli.

“Always check with a lifeguard for the latest beach and ocean conditions,” said the alert. “In an emergency call 911.”

The box jellyfish, also known as box jellies, can leave painful stings upon contact, and have been observed both in the water and along the shorelines at Waikiki beaches, officials said.
