FRONT ROYAL — A new community fridge is now open on North Royal Avenue, giving 24-hour access to free food for individuals dealing with food insecurity.
Open since Aug. 11, The Free Fridge of Front Royal is located on the front porch of St. Luke Community Clinic at 316 N. Royal Ave.
The brainchild of Rachael Wood and Rob DeMariano, the cold blessing box aims to tackle both food insecurity and food waste by providing a space for individuals, community organizations and businesses to donate edible, perishable food items for those in need.
Sounds simple enough, but the project is the result of more than a year of phone calls, legwork and organization by Wood and DeMariano.
