Authorities in Concord are searching for those responsible for a fire that damaged newly-installed turf on Mt. Diablo High School’s football field.
Firefighters and police officers responded to the school Sunday morning to investigate a reported fire on the field, police said. Firefighters knocked down the flames, but not before they scorched the midfield logo and surrounding synthetic turf.
The police department on Tuesday released surveillance footage that they said appears to show several people, possibly juveniles, setting off fireworks on the field the night before. It wasn’t immediately known if the fireworks sparked the blaze.
Arson investigators are looking into the fire, police said.
Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call Concord police Detective Lee Lawrence
