MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) - The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment announced that the state's youth suicide rate has dropped to its lowest level since 2007.

The decrease in youth suicides in Colorado is significant, with numbers falling from 87 in 2020 to 39 in 2024, according to state officials.

"We have been tracking with the state as well and seeing that reduction. I would say there's been a lot of targeted youth pieces with some of our work as a community, but also the work with our school district as well around preventing youth suicide," said Jennifer Daniels, the behavioral health division director at Mesa County Public Health.
