KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) - Rich with local history, the former Lewis School building has been sitting vacant in East Kinston for decades.
Now the non-profit Kinston Teens has decided to give it new life, buying the property to re-purpose it.
“Anything that could substantiate the community, I think that’s what this building could be doing,” Kinston Teens volunteer Tanya Yearwood says.
Ben Starkey and other residents who live nearby say it’s time the eyesore, with its broken windows and overgrown vines, gets turned into something better.
“It’ll make it look better. It’ll make the street look better over there, if it’s cleaned up over there,” Starkey says.
And clean up is just what Kinston teens plan to do to the old school.
