SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) -- Surfside Beach leaders on Tuesday voted to allow golf cart use throughout the night, taking advantage of a new state law allowing each municipality to set rules for their operation.
It took some time, but the 5-2 vote cleared a second reading and takes affect immediately.
"Our streets are pretty quiet. I'm pretty confidence we're going to be fine. I want to see the personal freedom extended for the people that want to drive their golf carts at night," Mayor Rob Krouse said.
Instead of rushing home before the previous 8 p.m. deadline, golf carts can be on the road all night long -- but only if they have working headlights and taillights.
