NEW JERSEY (PIX11) — A 72-year-old man is dead after he was struck by a car that crashed through the front glass windows of the Planet Fitness on Newark Avenue in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Police say a 69-year-old woman was behind the wheel of the maroon Jeep as it smashed into the building around 12:20 Tuesday afternoon.

The 72-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. A 59-year-old man, who was on a treadmill nearby, suffered minor injuries. Police say the driver suffered injuries consistent with airbag deployment.

An Elizabeth Police spokesperson said, "The incident remains under investigation. The driver is cooperating, and EPD have not ruled out any possibilities at this time."
