NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) -- A man from Portsmouth was sentenced on Aug. 19 to four years and five months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to court documents, Norfolk and Portsmouth police arrested Joshaua Anderson, 25, on outstanding warrants at a traffic stop in Norfolk on Feb. 16, 2024.

Detectives at the scene found a handgun equipped with a machine gun conversion device and a 31-round extended magazine among Anderson's belongings, court documents state. They also recovered more than a pound-and-a-half of marijuana, multiple jars of suspected THC wax and more than $2,200.

Anderson has previously been convicted of grand larceny, felony eluding, hit-and-run and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. As a felon, Anderson is legally barred from owning a
