MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) - Members of the Minot community had the chance to ask questions and learn more about the upcoming upgrades to the missile system at Minot Air Force Base.

Project leaders held a special townhall discussion on the Minot State campus Tuesday.

As we’ve reported, the Air Force is replacing the aging Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) system with the Sentinel system.

That project initially went well over budget, prompting a review.

Roughly 200 people came out to hear about the latest on the project and ask questions about it.

Some in attendance asked about how the Air Force plans to use land around the base, the safety of the new system, and the timetable.

Project leaders maintained the new system is safer than the current one.
