Although August heat doesn't feel like hunting weather, things will change soon. September is just around the corner and so are the first cool fronts that actually feel cool.
And along with a change in the weather comes the early archery season for deer . This year it's Sept. 12-14. The hunt is by special permit and the bag limit is one legal buck. Hunters may hunt on private or authorized public lands and harvest reporting along with testing for chronic wasting disease are required.
After that, the season again opens on Oct. 1 in the Delta, North Central and Hills deer management units. In the Southeast Deer Management Unit, the season opens Oct. 15.
