PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) -- New rules are coming for those looking to open up bars, restaurants and clubs that cater to late-night crowds.
In a 5-2 vote Tuesday night, Portsmouth City Council approved amendments to its ordinances that allow for greater oversight of establishments in an effort to try a provide owners with clear operational and enforcement expectations.
Conditions that will apply to new businesses applying for use permits range from recommended hours of 8 a.m. - midnight for live entertainment to a ban on outside promoters.
In recent years, Mayor Shannon Glover said there have been several "incidents" that have lead to safety concerns.
