PENN YAN, N.Y. (WENY) -- ServU Credit Union is inviting families to its annual “Gear Up for School” community event this afternoon in Penn Yan.

The back-to-school event runs from 2:30 to 6 p.m. at 102 Delano Place, behind the Keuka Lake Outlet near Mezcal Restaurant and next to Carey’s Lumber.

The afternoon will feature free school supplies, kid-friendly activities, face painting, and ice cream from Seneca Farms. Families will also have the chance to meet Smarty the Owl.

From 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., the Yates County Sheriff’s Department will be on site conducting car seat safety checks.

The event is free to attend and open to the community.
