In recent years, those opposed to the suffering of Palestinian civilians at the hands of the Israeli government have protested at, and sometimes shut down, Pride parades. It happened again last Sunday, when a group called Queers for Palestine Ottawa halted Capital Pride as the parade reached Parliament Hill. Unwilling to meet the protesters’ demands, the organizers cancelled the event.
It is always offensive when one group forcefully silences another. Queers for Palestine Ottawa prevented thousands of LGBTQ people and their allies from marching in or watching the Pride parade in Ottawa this year. Shutting down Pride to highlight the plight of Palestinians advances neither cau
