The Rockfish Valley Foundation held a 20th anniversary celebration at Camille Memorial Trailhead on Aug. 20 that featured dialogue about the ecology, history and culture of Rockfish Valley.
RVF is a nonprofit that supports Rockfish Valley’s conservation, recreation and environmental education.
The celebration also marked the 56th anniversary of Hurricane Camille in 1969, which brought up to 28 inches of rain to Central Virginia and caused flash flooding and landslides overnight. In Nelson County, 124 people died.
The trailhead is named after Hawes Edward Ewing and Elva Louise Hines Ewing, who died in the storm.
