MADISONVILLE, Ky. (WEVV) — A Madisonville man has been cited by police for harboring a vicious animal after a police officer was confronted by several dogs Tuesday.

Madisonville Police said the officer was dispatched to a call of dogs running loose just before Noon Tuesday.

According to the citation, the officer arrived to a home along Anne Drive, where they were confronted by multiple pit bull dogs, who were barking and acting aggressive towards the officer.

The officer attempted to pepper spray the animals to slow them down. As the officer went back to their vehicle, two more dogs surrounded the officer and attempted to bite the officer's leg.

The officer discharged their weapon, narrowly avoiding striking the dog.
