JACKSON, MI — A man accused of raping and killing his stepdaughter who disappeared in 1984 is back in Jackson.

Leonard Hugall arrived at the Jackson County Jail Tuesday night after being extradited from Florida to face murder charges, records show.

Hugall, 74, was recently charged with murder , accused of raping and killing Kelly Jean Harris, 13, under the guise of taking her to the 1984 Jackson County Fair.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon.

The murder charge comes months after Harris, missing since Aug. 11, 1984, was declared legally dead and a medical examiner ruling her death a homicide , Jackson County Undersheriff Jeremy Barnett said.

Hugall, 74, was released on parole in September 2024 from a prison in Florida, where he had been serving a 50-year sentence
