Denzel Washington has revealed that he's "tired" of watching movies. While the Oscar-winning actor has been making movies since the early '80s, he is no longer interested in consuming other people's film projects. "I don't watch movies, man. I really don't," Washington divulged in a GQ video interview with director Spike Lee. "I'm just being honest with you! I don't watch movies! I don't go to the movies. I don't watch movies... I'm tired of movies. Yeah." When the Do the Right Thing director asked the 70-year-old how many film credits he has under his belt, he simply replied, "Too many. I think 50!" The duo took part in the interview to promote their crime thriller, Highest 2 Lowest, which marks their fifth collaboration following Mo' Better Blues, Malcolm X, He Got Game and Inside Man. Lee hit headlines when their latest project debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in May because he said the movie would "probably" be his last with Washington, who is unsure of how many films he will make before he retires from acting. During a press conference, the director stated, "I think this is it - five. He's been talking about retirement, so... Even though he just did another deal. I thought you said you were retired, Denzel, what's up?! But those five films together, those stand up." However, he walked back the comment earlier this month, telling The Hollywood Reporter, "I said that before, but I got my mind right. I'm open to work with Denzel Washington and this not be the last film of the dynamic duo, D and Lee." Highest 2 Lowest, also starring Jeffrey Wright and A$AP Rocky, will be released on Apple TV+ on 5 September after a limited theatrical run.
