An incumbent Birmingham City Council member who last year was arrested for driving under the influence will face a runoff on Oct. 7.

Council member J.T. Moore of District 4 was arrested for DUI last year when police found him sleeping in a city-owned Chevrolet Tahoe pulled off on the shoulder of Interstate 65 in South Alabama. City council members cannot drive city vehicles under a 1967 state law.

Moore issued an apology during the Nov. 5 city council meeting, and the council took no further action on the matter.

Moore will face a runoff with challenger Brian Gunn, a member of the Birmingham Planning Commission.

Two other incumbent council members also face runoffs.

Incumbent LaTonya Tate of District 9 will face challenger John Hilliard, a former council member.
