WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) -- The Trumbull County Sheriff's Office has alerted the public about a scam where the family members of inmates are being targeted.

According to a press release, scammers attempt to pressure loved ones into paying money over the phone for things such as court fees, fines or house arrest arrangements.

The Sheriff's Office said that they will never call you to request or arrange payment for court costs, bonds or house arrest. The agency said that all legitimate payments are handled directly through the courts, the Clerk of Courts, or official government channels -- never by phone.

Deputies said that if you receive a suspicious call, do not provide any personal or financial information. People should hang up immediately and contact our office if they have concerns.
