Fallout: Bakerfield is a fantastic total conversion mod for 1993's Doom that's been in the works for a couple of years now. After seeing it in action in an extended gameplay trailer, I'm fully convinced we need a full-on role-playing game styled exactly like this. It's like a peek at an alternate reality where Interplay kept developing the post-apocalyptic series Fallout and eventually pushed it into first-person. In this fantasy, the series evolves the isometric art style that defined the earliest games. The chunky, pixelated rendition of the wasteland visible here affords the world a gritty texture that's lost with more run-of-the-mill graphical styles that are focused on realism. I don't even mind that the minimalist map almost seems useless; it's cool, and that's what matters.
