Silver Street by Taj is to open in Old Port Thursday

Bar and restaurant Silver Street by Taj, a sister operation to South Portland’s popular Taj Indian Cuisine, is slated to open Thursday .

The beverage-forward venue — located at 35 Silver St., the former home of The North Point — is being launched by partners Sai Guntaka, owner of Taj, and Taj’s beverage director, Jim Baldi. Cody Brann will be Silver Street’s beverage director.

Guntaka said Silver Street’s craft cocktails are meant to be reasonably priced, ranging from $8-$14, and include drinks like a riff on an Old Fashioned with honey and fresh herbs and such Indian-inflected drinks as a hibiscus-infused margarita. Silver Street by Taj will also offer wines curated by Baldi and a selection of local beers, featuring some brewed specifically for Silver Street, like the Silver Street
