ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Altoona VA Medical Center will mark Overdose Awareness Day with a ceremony this week, offering education on overdose prevention and naloxone use.
The event is set for Thursday, Aug. 28, at 1 p.m. outside the Mental Health Building at the VA, located at 2907 Pleasant Valley Blvd. It will honor lives lost to overdose while also raising awareness about prevention and reducing stigma tied to naloxone.
Veterans, caregivers, survivors and community members are invited to attend. Staff will provide resources, demonstrate how naloxone works and discuss how community members can play a role in preventing overdoses.
Veterans who would like naloxone can also order it on-site during the event, according to the medical center.
