Two Santa Rosa men were sentenced to decades in prison Tuesday for the shooting death of a Santa Rosa 16 year old.

Julian Casarez, 20, was sentenced to 30 years in prison while Alberto Sanchez, 22, was sentenced to a 25-year term of incarceration, court and jail records show.

Casarez and Sanchez pleaded guilty to murder on July 29 for the killing of Fernando Martinez at the Village Apartment in Santa Rosa on Jan. 26, 2023.

The sentences were recommended by prosecutors at the time of their guilty plea, court records show.

Cameron County District Attorney Luis V. Saenz said previously that Martinez was involved in illegal activity and that Casarez, Sanchez, and 19-year-old Josue Torres were part of a group of teens who since October 2022 were targeting drug dealers who sold vaping pens,
