Lowe’s is buying a building material distributor in an $8.8 billion deal.

California-based Foundation Building Materials has hundreds of locations nationwide, which offer Lowe’s a way to better serve professional builders, Lowe’s Chairman Marvin Ellison said in a news release.

Lowe’s is purchasing California-based Foundation Building Materials as part of its mission to better serve professional builders, Lowe’s Chairman Marvin Ellison said in a news release.

Foundation Building Materials began operations in 2011. It has 370 locations in the United States and Canada, serving 40,000 professional contractors and builders who buy interior building products, including drywall, metal framing, ceiling systems, commercial doors and hardware, and insulation.
