CRESTVIEW, Fla. (WKRG) — Manslaughter charges against three Crestview police officers who were indicted in the 2021 death of a Crestview man have been dismissed.
According to a news release from the Florida state attorney, Brandon Hardaway, William Johns, and Evan Reynolds were indicted in June 2022 in connection with the Oct. 14, 2021, death of Calvin Wilks, Jr.
The indictment was issued after an Okaloosa grand jury found probable cause to believe the officers had caused Wilks' death.
"Probable cause is the legal threshold needed to return an indictment, but is less than the level of proof to convict at trial," the release said.
According to previous reporting, Crestview police received a call at about 2:45 a.m. on Oct. 14 from a concerned caller who said they had heard someone scream
