Shenandoah County supervisors agreed on Tuesday to lift the age restriction on a 55-and-older subdivision under construction for 20 years.

The Board of Supervisors approved a request to amend the zoning map to remove the voluntary condition, or proffer, which restricted Creek Valley Estates near Mount Jackson to a housing community of persons 55 or older. Federal laws require that at least 80% of the units be occupied by at least one person who is 55 years of age or older.

Chair Josh Stephens, Vice Chair Dennis Morris and supervisors Steven Baker, David Ferguson, Karl Roulston and Timothy Taylor voted in favor of a motion to grant the request.
