One of the longest-serving members of Gov. Kevin Stitt's administration said Wednesday he is leaving state government.
Steven Harpe, whose association with Stitt pre-dates the latter's election to the state's top office in 2018, announced his resignation as corrections director effective Sept. 30.
Harpe said he is taking a position in private business.
Harpe has been corrections director since October 2022. He previously was executive director of the Office of Management and Enterprise Services, the state's chief operating officer, OMES' deputy director of technology, a corrections board member, and deputy cabinet secretary.
Some of those positions were held concurrently.
