COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- Allan Hornyak, an Ohio State basketball star in the 1970s, has died at the age of 74.
The Bellaire, Ohio native died on Monday, according to his obituary. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, four grandchildren, and two sisters.
Hornyak became a high school sports sensation in Ohio after posting a 40-point per game season with St. John's Central. He also played quarterback and pitched for the school.
He would stay in Ohio to become a Buckeye and helped the basketball team to a Big Ten title in 1971 and captained the team in 1973. Hornyak led Ohio State to the Elite Eight of the 1971 NCAA tournament, where the Buckeyes were defeated by Western Kentucky. He also earned multiple All-American honors and was inducted into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame.
