Fans attending Texas Tech football games in Jones AT&T Stadium this season are still encouraged to throw tortillas, just far less of them.

After a recent 15-1 vote by Big 12 Conference athletic directors to emphasize a rule against fans throwing objects onto the playing field during competition, Texas Tech coaches, administrators and fans took that as a direct shot at the Red Raiders ' longstanding tradition. Tech director of athletics Kirby Hocutt confirmed as much, saying while other objects besides tortillas were mentioned in the discussion among his colleagues, Tech's gameday environment was a good portion of the debate.
