Two children have been killed and many more are injured after a shooting at a primary school in Minneapolis.
The victims are aged just eight and ten-years-old.
Local police confirmed that a gunman opened fire with a rifle through the windows of the Annunciation Catholic School in the city on Wednesday morning.
Inside the building, a group of children were celebrating Mass to mark the return to school after the summer break.
Minneapolis police chief Brian O’Hara called the act of violence "absolutely incomprehensible" after two children were confirmed dead and 17 others reported as wounded.
Mr O’Hara added the shooting suspect is dead and in his early 20s and does not have an extensive known criminal history.
Officials are now looking into his motive.
