Pennsylvania leaders offered prayers and support for victims and families after a gunman killed at least two children and injured more than a dozen people during a Wednesday morning Mass as a Minnesota Catholic school opened the school year.

Gov. Josh Shapiro, who posted on social media that he’d reached out to Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, said that he and his wife, Lori, were “heartbroken by the news coming out of Minneapolis this morning.”

“Every child deserves to be safe and feel safe in their classrooms and in their houses of worship — and these utterly senseless, inhumane acts of gun violence have no place in our country,” Mr. Shapiro said.
