CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has classified Denison Park in Corning as a Superfund site.

A state-led investigation discovered metals and semi-volatile organic compounds like lead, arsenic and others, as well as glass manufacturing waste including ash, brick and glass in the soil and groundwater at the park.

Officials say Denison Park is classified as a Class 2 site, meaning there is a significant threat to public health and the environment if the soil is disturbed.

Investigators are continuing to look into the nature and extent of the soil contaminants and could schedule a cleanup of the park at a later date.
