MINGO COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - The Mingo County Board of Education said Kermit K-8 School will open tomorrow, Aug. 28.

In a Facebook post , the board said an engineering report indicates the building is safe to occupy during times of “normal river levels and dry periods,” as there is “low risk for structural distress.”

They said the recommendation states, “If the building continues to be used and occupied, provisions should be made to terminate the use of the building during high water events and not allow use of the building until the slide area has been inspected for slope/building movement.”

The board said testing and monitoring devices will be used to guide further decisions with the school building.

School will begin on a normal schedule tomorrow, the board said.
