CARBON COUNTY, Pa. — There are plenty of ways to spend time outdoors at Hickory Run State Park near Albrightsville, from hiking to fishing, as well as hunting.
In July, state lawmakers passed legislation to open up Sundays for hunting; however, that new legislation doesn't mean open season at state parks.
"For state parks, it is only the three set days in November that we are open for hunting which is different than what the game commission is doing and forestry is doing," said Stacie Hall, Hickory Run State Park Park Operations Manager.
The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is taking a phased approach to potentially expanding Sunday hunting dates in state parks. For this year, only three Sundays in November, the 16, 23, and 30 will be permitted.
