GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Moving is stressful enough, but for foster families in Florida, it’s often meant starting from scratch. A new state law aims to change that by allowing foster parents to transfer their license anywhere in Florida without reapplying.
The goal, according to lawmakers, is to cut red tape at the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and prevent disruptions for children in foster care.
Right now, if a foster parent moves from Tallahassee to Sarasota, for example, they have to start the licensing process all over again. That can cause delays and bureaucratic hurdles that sometimes disrupt the continuity of care for kids.
Under the new law, foster families can transfer their license to a new address in as little as a week to 10 days.
