MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) - The Mesa County deputy, who allegedly gave information to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that led to the detainment of a 19-year-old Utah woman, is resigning from his position.

Deputy Alexander Zwinck's last day with the sheriff's office is Sept. 1. For his reported actions with ICE, Zwinck was placed on three weeks of unpaid administrative leave and was removed from his current assignment on the Western Colorado Task Force and reassigned to patrol.

On June 3, Zwinck allegedly over a Signal group chat gave ICE information about Caroline Dias-Goncalves, who is originally from Brazil and has filed for asylum. Goncalves was detained for nearly three weeks but eventually released on June 20. She said the experience was “the hardest of my life.”
