YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) - Construction crews are putting the finishing touches on the pedestrian bridge at YSU's Wick Parking Deck.

The project began in May and has kept the walkway closed to students ever since.

Danny O'Connell, director of support services, says the bridge, built in 1978, needed upkeep to ensure it stays safe for years to come.

This is just one of several upgrades made to the garage this summer, including fresh paint and striping, as part of the university's push to maintain its busiest parking facility.

"What I think is significant about this, what we did in this parking garage this year was the single largest maintenance and upkeep project we've ever had," O'Connell said.

O'Connell says they expect work to be completed by October 2, but it might open sooner.
