MEXIA, Texas — The death of Naval Station Norfolk sailor Angelina Resendiz has been ruled "undetermined" by Virginia's Chief Medical Examiner, leaving her family without answers three months after the 21-year-old culinary specialist was found dead in the woods.
The inconclusive autopsy presents major legal challenges for prosecutors and raises questions about whether the fellow sailor charged in connection with her death can be successfully convicted.
Resendiz was found dead on June 9th near Broad Creek, Virginia, eleven days after going missing. Her mother, Esmeralda Castle, called the base on May 29th after friends reported not hearing from her daughter. The Navy told Castle that Resendiz was safe in another sailor's room.
