LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville wants to formally reclaim its 2013 NCAA men’s basketball championship title.
In a statement Wednesday, UofL Athletics Director Josh Heird said the university is prepared to engage in a conversation with the NCAA about the vacated championship.
Heird said said he understands how important that season was to the Louisville community, the former players, and UofL fans.
"With the significant changes in intercollegiate athletics, new guidelines and principles regarding sanctions, and recent rulings in NCAA enforcement cases, now is the appropriate time to revisit Louisville’s sanctions with the NCAA, including the prohibition on displaying a championship banner," he said.
