(WKBN) -- Some schools have started classes, which means students are riding buses, and even more will be rolling next week.
Drivers should stop for school buses when their lights are flashing red, as it's the law. Some buses have cameras to help catch drivers who pass them illegally.
Ohio State Highway Patrol suggests you know the rules to protect the children.
"If you pass a stopped bus, it is a mandatory court appearance. You can face a fine of up to $500," said OSHP Sgt. Ryan Purpura.
In the last six years, OSHP troopers have written about 15,000 citations for passing a stopped school bus and other school zone violations. Drivers should slow down through school zones, stay alert and watch for children.
