North Carolina Film Industry Back in the Spotlight with “The Bard”

The Piedmont-Triad is once again buzzing with film production, as a new North Carolina–based project wraps up its final week of shooting. The Bard , a 19th-century historical drama, is bringing both cameras and community talent together to tell the story of George Moses Horton—the first Black poet published in the South.

Faculty members at UNC School of the Arts, Lauren Vilchik and Kim Zubick are co-producing the film. Both say they believe strongly in investing in North Carolina’s film industry.

“It’s a story that centers around the life of George Moses Horton,” Zubick explained. “We wanted to make a very concerted effort to hire local talent.”
