Multiple railcar theft suspects were placed into custody and several Chicago police officers were hurt in a Wednesday incident.

According to an update from Chicago police, officers tasked with investigating burglaries came upon a group of suspects that were observed removing items from railcars in a railyard Wednesday morning.

As officers approached, the occupant of an SUV near the railcars got behind the wheel and sped toward them, striking an officer.

Multiple officers then fired their service weapons in the direction of the SUV, with the driver continuing to speed toward them. The suspect struck a marked Chicago police car before the vehicle came to a stop. That suspect was taken into custody.
