KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — 20 years after a deadly hurricane barreled through the south, Knoxville organizations are reflecting on how they stepped up to take care of victims.

Hundreds of Hurricane Katrina victims sought shelter in Knoxville in 2005. The McNabb Center jumped into action to provide resources and housing for victims.

"It was emergency on the ground trauma firsthand," said McNabb Center CEO Mona Blanton-Kitts.

The McNabb Center provides mental health support, victim services and an array of other resources. Victims stepped off planes at McGhee Tyson Airport in 2005 and were ushered to the civic coliseum for shelter.
