PHOENIX (AZFamily) — We’ve received a few comments from viewers wondering why Phoenix rainfall is so far below normal for the monsoon, especially after the soaking rain last night.

The simple answer is that the Phoenix official rainfall is reported at Sky Harbor Airport, and Sky Harbor has missed out on most of the rain lately. A perfect example is Tuesday night, when over an inch of rain fell in north Phoenix but just a trace grazed the airport.

Sky Harbor has been having some bad luck catching rainfall much of the 2025 monsoon, with only 0.49″ total since June 15. That is well short of the average monsoon-to-date rainfall total of 1.71″.
