REDMOND, Wash. — A beloved community mural that once decorated Redmond Town Center has disappeared beneath a vinyl wrap, sparking controversy over what some are calling a "cover up."
The colorful artwork, which featured about 80 small creatures designed by children, was a source of community pride for at least 5 years before vanishing during the pandemic.
Bellevue-based artist Vikram Madan painted the mural in 2014 with help from 200 Northshore school children who provided drawings for inspiration. The collaborative piece was designed for people at the town center to enjoy.
"I found it very heartwarming to see all of the creativity that the kids brought to the table," Madan said.
