BUCKLEY, Wash — Drivers may soon see relief from the lengthy detours caused by the emergency closure of the White River Bridge on state Route 410.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced Monday that engineers have developed a temporary repair plan that could reopen the bridge to one-way alternating traffic by the end of September.

The steel truss bridge, which connects Buckley and Enumclaw, was struck on Aug. 18, forcing its immediate closure. Since then, all vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic has been detoured to alternate routes, adding as much as an hour to commutes in peak travel times.

After a detailed inspection and structural modeling, WSDOT determined that the bridge can be stabilized with five temporary braces along damaged panels. Engineers
