GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Catholic school leaders in Gainesville say their thoughts and prayers are with the Minnesota community shaken after a deadly school shooting this week.

Police say a gunman opened fire at a Catholic school in Minneapolis, killing multiple people and injuring others. Investigators report that the suspect has been taken into custody.

Locally, Queen of Peace Catholic Academy principal Therese Majewski says staff moved quickly to reassure parents about their own safety measures.

“We sent out an email immediately with reassuring them that we’re praying for those people but also that we have things in place to hopefully prevent something similar here,” Majewski said.
