PEMBROKE, N.C. (WBTW) -- A Lumberton man took home $1 million this week after striking it big from a $10 scratch-off ticket purchased at a Pembroke store, the North Carolina Education Lottery said.
Adrian Locklear visited Moe's Mini Mart on Prospect Road in Pembroke, where he purchased a 50X The Cash ticket.
Lottery officials said Locklear chose to take home his winnings as a $600,000 lump sum, pocketing $450,503 after required tax withholdings
50X The Cash debuted in February with six top prizes of $1 million -- two remain to be claimed.
Last fiscal year, North Carolina sent $21.72 million to Robeson County for educational programs collected through lottery revenues. Since 2006, the county's received more than $221 million worth of proceeds to support education.
